DAY TWO RESULTS: BODY GLOVE SURFBOUT PRESENTED BY ADIO

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., April 27, 2006 – Light off-shore winds, sunny skies and a noticeable increase in swell greeted an international field of competitors for day two of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) four-star Body Glove Surfbout Presented by Adio, first stop of the Macy’s CA Trifecta Surf Series.

In stark contrast to the opening heat of day one, which contest officials were forced to restart due to a lack of contestable waves, day two began with a flurry of high performance aerial maneuvers. Geoff Brack and Nils Schweizer launched air reverses taking full advantage of the improving conditions.

The swell continued to fill in and by mid-morning young up and coming surfers in the round of 128 attacked every wave that came through. Floridian Adam Wickwire convincingly held on to the top advancing spot in his heat, but the battle for second was intense. It came down to a run of extremely tight, last-minute exchanges, but Zander Mortan was able to advance past John Daniels with less than one-tenth of a point separating them.

In the next heat Newport’s David Giddings nabbed a clean runner late in the heat and posted an 8.0 advancing him to the next round with Santa Cruz’s Omar Etchevery. “I passed up a wave before the one that I scored on,” said Giddings the seasoned competitor. “Sometimes it’s tough to be patient and just sit and wait with only a minute or two left. But I waited and finally that one came to me. I just thought, ‘It’s all or nothing,’ so I let the tail fly.”

Round three began with a bang as Magnum Martinez scored a quick 8.33, but it was Hawaiian Casey Brown who, with under three-minutes to go, launched a fast, fluid attack to win the heat. Australian Adam Melling and Brazilian William Cardoso took down their American opponents. Melling, with his crisp front-side snaps, got the better of the exchange earning a 7.67 and a 7.90. “It was so much better out there today than yesterday,” commented Melling, whose debut at Lower Trestles opened the round of 192 with a re-start. “It’s getting better. I really like this wave at Lowers and with the added push in the swell, tomorrow should be fun.”

Trestles locals Brandon Ragenovich and Greg Long used their knowledge to dominate their heats. Although Long’s heat may have tested his patience, he put together a 6.17 and an 8.83 to advance in first-place. In heat seven of round three, Mitchell Coleborn posted a 9.6, the highest score of the contest, and in heat 11, Floridians Aaron Cormican and Adam Wickwire looked comfortable and explosive in the small surf both securing a spot in the next round.

The Surfbout is also the first stop of the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series. The Trifecta was formed in 2005 as part of a three-year plan to strengthen surfing in America by uniting the Body Glove Surfbout presented Adio, the Newport Pro presented by Wavewatch, and the O’Neill Cold Water Classic under one banner. The Trifecta will award a $33,333 bonus to the surfer that takes first-place in all three events. Should no one surfer take the win in all three events, the Trifecta also awards an overall points-winner bonus of $10,000.

The Body Glove Surfbout Presented by Adio will commence tomorrow at 8a.m. with the round of 96 and the beginning of the round of 64. Live scoring and press updates are available at www.bodyglovesb.asglive.com.

On Saturday April 29th, Amp’d Mobile will broadcast the semi-final and final rounds of the Body Glove Surfbout and final round of the Oakley Pro Junior live to Amp’d Mobile phones, a first for U.S. wireless provider.
