BODY GLOVE SURFBOUT PRESENTED BY ADIO WELCOMES TOP SURFERS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

-Contest Aids in the Fight Against Proposed Lower Trestles Toll Road-

San Clemente, Calif. – April 13, 2006 - A field of 192 professional surfers from around the world are scheduled to battle it out at the four-star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Body Glove Surfbout Presented by Adio Footwear. This World Qualifying Series (WQS) contest will be held at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, California, April 25-29, 2006 and is the first stop of the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series. The ASP Grade 2 Oakley Pro Junior will run in conjunction with the Body Glove Surfbout on April 28th and 29th and will feature 32 of the top American and International surfers under the age of 20.

Last year, David Weare (ZAF) took the Surfbout title in perfect Lower Trestles conditions. This year, 2001 World Champion C.J. Hobgood (FL) and his twin brother Damien are scheduled to compete with Rob Machado (CA), Taylor Knox (CA), Tim Curran (CA) and Pat O’Connell (CA). San Clemente heroes Shane Beschen, Chris Ward, the Gudauskas brothers, plus other local and international rising stars, will be on hand to try to claim the $75,000 prize purse. “We’re already getting some pulses out of the Southern Hemisphere,” says Body Glove’s Greg Browning. “It’s a strong sign that we can expect great conditions for this year’s Surfbout.” WaveWatch forecaster Victor DeJesus agrees. “In late April there tends to be a solid Southern Hemisphere swell in Southern Calif. Factors in the South Pacific climate really contribute to larger fetch areas, good trajectories and very intense storms during the late spring into early summer. Based on this information and recent medium-range model trends, the outlook for surf is promising.”

With its history beginning in the late ’80s, the Body Glove Surfbout Presented by Adio has played an integral role in the growth of surfing. Through its large prize purses, reputable list of competitors and prime location at Lower Trestles, the Surfbout continues to build as an anchor event for ASP North America and has become one of the most prestigious events in the mainland U.S. “Adio Footwear is excited to be a part of the Body Glove Surfbout for the third year running,” says Scott Desiderio, marketing manager for Earth Products. “Lowers is always one of the most anticipated stops on the tour and is one of the best and most consistent waves on the California coast. The Surfbout attracts some of the best pros from all over the world as well as the best local talent -- we’re looking forward to an exciting contest.”

In response to the ongoing dispute over the proposed toll road construction at Lower Trestles, an online auction will be a special addition to this years contest. From April 19 to April 29, fans can bid online for autographed surfboards from 2001 World Champion C.J. Hobgood, Tim Curran, Chris Ward, Mike Losness (CA) and Holly Beck (CA), as well as wetsuits and gear from Body Glove, Adio and Oakley. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Surfrider Foundation and its mission to save Lower Trestles. For more information and to start bidding, please visit www.bodyglovesb06.asglive.com
